Three Stone Engagement Rings: A Legacy of Past, Present, and Future

For over 30 years, Dunkin's Diamonds has helped couples choose engagement rings that carry real meaning, and few styles say more than a three stone setting. Also known as "trinity" or "past, present, and future" rings, each piece is built around a trio of diamonds representing the history you've shared, the life you're building together, and everything still ahead. Because we operate independent showrooms across both Florida and Ohio, we carry an extensive selection of three stone settings alongside a full inventory of certified loose diamonds, so you can size up center and side stones together and see the finished proportions in person before you buy.

Balanced Craftsmanship, Built to Your Proportions

A three stone ring lives or dies on proportion: the center stone, the two side stones, and the metalwork that ties them together all have to sit in balance. Our in-house master bench jewelers hand-fit every setting to your chosen center stone shape and pair it with complementary side stones in round, pear, trillion, or tapered baguette cuts. Every setting is available in platinum or 14k and 18k white, yellow, or rose gold, and can be resized or reworked after your center diamond is selected.

Three Stone Ring FAQ

What do the three stones in a "past, present, and future" ring represent?

The traditional reading is that the two side stones represent the past you've shared and the future you're building, while the center stone represents the present moment of your commitment. Many couples choose to interpret the symbolism their own way, but the trinity of stones is meant to reflect a continuous, ongoing love story rather than a single moment in time.

Do the side stones need to match the center stone's shape?

No. While some three stone rings use three diamonds of the same cut for a uniform wall of brilliance, many designs pair a larger center stone with smaller pear, trillion, or tapered baguette side stones for contrast and dimension. Either approach works, and a consultant can help you decide which balance suits your center diamond's proportions.

Can a three stone ring be resized or adjusted after purchase?

Yes. Because a three stone setting has a wider profile across the finger than a solitaire, our in-house bench jewelers pay close attention to band width and shank taper when resizing to keep the ring comfortable and the stones properly aligned. Metal color, prong height, and finish can also be adjusted after the center stone is set.
